Private Places
Henrietta Van den Bergh & Helen Fickling - Garden Photographers’ Association
Foreword by James Alexander Sinclair, broadcaster, writer and award-winning garden designer

Published alongside the successful Garden Photographers’ Association Exhibition, 2005 – Private Places - this wonderful collection of photographs explores a parallel world of personal oases lying behind sometimes the grittiest city landscapes.

Private Places contains 96 stunning photographs, both colour and black and white, shot on locations including Cyprus, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, the UK and the USA. Top garden and plant photographers explore the relationship between people and the personal havens they create, ranging from plant-led gardens to more contemporary outdoor spaces which emphasise the architectural rather than the horticultural. Some show merely the essence of a garden – a musty potting corner, a window box, the close-up of a favourite plant or leaf – while others show living worlds under glass.

The collection includes images from some of the world’s most renowned professional photographers including Jonathan Buckley, Andrea Jones, Andrew Lawson, Marianne Majerus, Clive Nichols and Derek St Romaine. The foreword has been written by James Alexander Sinclair, broadcaster, writer and award-winning garden designer and there is an introductory essay by Chris Young, editor of Garden Design Journal.

"The best garden photographers in the country have captured magical moments outdoors..." Book of the Week, The Sunday Telegraph
