From a school for just a handful of pupils founded in the backstreets of Cripplegate to one of the giants of the educational world, the story of the first 300 years of The Lady Eleanor Holles School is both remarkable and fascinating.

Written by Elizabeth Hossain, a highly respected former History teacher and keen local historian, ‘Grace and Integrity’: A Portrait of The Lady Eleanor Holles School, 1711–2011 charts the development of the school, following its moves from Redcross Street in the City to Hackney and then to Hampton, its changing fortunes, significant events in its history, and the personalities who helped forge the unique character of the school from its founding to the present day. Much of the early history of the school has been newly researched for this book and has underlined the importance of LEH and its pioneering teachers in the transformational women’s education movement of the 19th century.

This pioneering spirit is still with the school today. As well as being a celebration of LEH’s history, the book will capture the ‘LEH Experience’ of recent years. Through informative text, beautiful imagery, newly-commissioned photography and reminiscences from alumnae, staff, and current pupils, the vibrant community which makes the school so special will be brought to life.
