Military museum guide published
25 January 2007
The latest edition of the guidebook, Military Museums in the UK, published in association with the Army Museums Ogilby Trust (AMOT), includes comprehensive region-by-region details on over 140 regimental and service-related museums throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
In addition to clearly presented information on collections, facilities, opening hours and directions, there is a separate section covering the principal Service Museums and prestigious national collections, as well as a guide to the succession of regimental titles from 1881 up to the present day.
The Army Museums Ogilby Trust is a registered charity founded in 1954 by Colonel Robert Ogilby to support and promote the regimental and corps museums of the British Army. This guide is a natural extension of that role and complements the Trust’s web site (www.armymuseums.org.uk), which not only lists all the museums but includes useful advice on ancestor research and regimental bibliographies for genealogists and military historians.
In his foreword, the Trust’s patron, HRH The Duke of York, says: “Military museums across the country are a rich source of historical information and they provide unique insights into the inspirational deeds of courage, bravery and good- humoured fortitude that have characterised the British Army through the centuries.”
This spiral bound paperback folds flat for easy reference and is the essential guide for museum visitors and military historians.
