Third Millennium and James & James merge

4th July 2007

Two specialist London-based book publishers, Third Millennium Information Ltd (TMI) and James & James (Publishers) Ltd announced today the merger of their respective publishing portfolios.

TMI was founded in 1999 and has rapidly developed a reputation for producing high-quality illustrated books for the international education, heritage, military, museum and gallery markets, including titles for various Oxbridge colleges, universities, independent schools, Inns of Court and institutions such as The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, The Royal Hospital Chelsea and Durham Cathedral.

In 2008 TMI will also be publishing the commemorative 800th anniversary portrait of The University of Cambridge.

Over the last 21 years, under the guidance of Hamish MacGibbon, James & James has established itself as a leading publisher of both corporate and school histories.Company histories include BP, Vodafone, Scottish & Newcastle, Johnson & Johnson, John Laing, Tarmac, Austin Reed, Norwich Union, Northern Rock, The Woolwich, Whitbread, and many others. Its educational and institutional list comprises over 55 schools, colleges, universities, charities, professional and other national institutions such as the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey.

TMI Chairman, Julian Platt, said: “I have known Hamish MacGibbon for a few years and we both agreed that it made a great deal of commercial sense to combine our two complementary businesses in order to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading publishers of highly illustrated books for the education, heritage and corporate communities.”

Hamish MacGibbon, Chairman of James & James, added: “Our two companies together make us by some way the largest publishing enterprise in this rapidly expanding niche market in the UK. The merger will enable us to consolidate this position and continue to build on it. At the same time it will form a solid base for expansion into overseas markets.”
